Whats happened to Mowatt. Have followed him through development squads where him and dawson bossed midfield. Back then we said all he needs is to add a bit of bite to his game and get more involved and he could have been our maìn playmaker. Since getting in first team he has stood still, not added anything to his game. I know he plays out of his favourite position a lot but that's no excuse. He has the talent to be a problem anywhere but still needs to get more involved. When you see what Pablo brings to no 10 position after a couple of games it makes me wonder why Mowatt has not claimed that position long ago. If Pablo was out wide he would still cause problems and create. Said this was Mowatts make or break season and its games like last nights that he needs to impress in and he is not. Shame because he is talented but at the moment not the player he could be.

The kids got skill BigE, but for me he's not good enough and I think it's all down to lack of pace. He's got a cracking left foot and his free kicks have pulled us out of some sticky patches, but for him to play we have to put 5 in midfield so he can be carried. My opinion, but we lost out there when Everton come sniffing. I'd have rather lost him than Cook and Byram.

Mowatt’s lack of pace has always been a flaw but this can be overcome with skill and stamina. Although he does have skill, I feel that his stamina over the past couple of seasons has deteriorated, or to be more specific, he seems to take longer than other players to build up his stamina following pre-season. Last night was an opportunity for him and although he was played out of position (he is not a winger) , I felt that his general play was laboured. The more tired he got the less accurate his passes came. Last week I had a disagreement with Danumwhite about the merits of Mowatt over Hernandez and although I take no pleasure in seeing Mowatt fail, it was clear to anyone who watched last night why Mowatt is not being considered as first choice for the No 10 role.

Is it he knows his best position and yet his last 5 or so managers persist in playing him out wide.? Must affect his confidence and motivation?

63 got to agree with notts. When murphy and mowatt played last season it was like watching paint dry, so many side and backward passes. If playing with lone striker, especially wood, no 10 needs to putting pressure on defence, spreading play to support striker. Scoring the odd wonder goal ain't enough. No 10 is the driving force, he ain't got the stamina to do it.

Perhaps Northumberland but how does he change that opinion?

Notts, I am starting to come around to your way of thinking. I didn't go last night or listen to the game but one of my lads went.
I asked him how Mowatt had played, his reply was, he did nothing really. (just about sums him up at the moment) . I'm starting to think my view of him is a bit biased as he was in the same class as one of my lads at school.
P. S. I'm not xenophobic, actually my wife is Swedish. Well she's got blond hair anyway! ;)

Take your comments respectfully Notts and BIGE, I struggle to see why managers/ coaches play players out of position. Mowatt was a player who impressed and not so long ago was more than coping with playing regularly in championship. Somethings gone wrong. Good players don't suddenly become poor without reason.
Roofe was bought because he scored goals playing in his natural position of striker, why play him out wide where he is not as effective? If we needed someone to play out wide left in a forward position we should have bought a player suited to that role.

It's great we are winning games, I hope it continues and MC let's the team and GM get on with things, .

My take on Mowatt is identical to Notts but I'd also throw in the factor that purely in my opinion the game in the championship has gotten quicker and is too much to handle for some players. The pace has especially increased in midfield. With most coaches now adopting a 4231 the game is more compressed and physical in midfield which is making pace ever so important. This is why great hopes like Murphy can no longer cut it. League One is their standard where the pace is not as quick. Like Wood, this makes Mowatt a sub in this league. Shame but you can't teach athleticism. This is also why Byram and Cook got snapped up because they have those attributes. As for Mowatt future he has to knuckle down in training to have any chance otherwise he may have to ply his trade at a lower club.

We seem to have gone from famine to feast with the number of players all preferring to play the No 10 role in Hernandez, Mowatt and Roofe. Totally agree that square pegs should not be put in round holes.
