Yeah it happens Aus, keepers don’t save every shot and with the way he’s insulted when makes an error then why can’t he be praised for making a great save.

Hit a one on one straight at keeper,

Misplaced an easy pass on a three on two break

Missed the target with four shots.

Now that won’t be mentioned, rightly so, however every mistake by mes is highlighted. Who’d be a keeper?

I think you can correct yourself on that Berm with every so called error he made. Excuse me but are they really errors? Some wanting to find faults where they don’t exist.
I think the young man could do with some breathing space to get on with the job he is paid to do and is capable of it, rather than everyone wanting to unjustifiably stick the knife in all of the time.
That pressure is wholly unnecessary and in my opinion must stop.

Don’t recall anyone turning up at Illan house, scaring, insulting his wife blocking his driveway with their cars and threatening harm to his young child on social media. (Listen to his podcast for the details)

That’s what happened to our own Patrick Bamford, it’s happened throughout our recent history Liam, junior, Tyler Roberts the list goes on and everyone will recall the names and others. Although m, Junior is proof that players can turn it around.

What happened to Patrick Bamford is abhorrent in the extreme and this should never happen to any player but please, abuse is not goalkeeper specific.

Our multi millionaire goalKeeper has been under an inordinate amount of pressure I’m sure, but personally, that’s part and parcel for every player in the modern game at the highest level, very few quit citing pressure though.

I recall a different pressure when my mortgage rate was way up to 13.8% and I had to work with a dislocated arm one Christmas Eve, through fear of losing my house and providing for my family over Christmas.

No work no money, certainly felt like pressure at the time.

A different kind of pressure sure, but please let’s retain some perspective here, where was the outrage for the league one Liam comments?

All credit to the boy for playing professional football at the highest level, but it’s easy to stop the name calling on here, but that will not stop supporters groaning when he makes errors or social media warriors, thankfully nothing has happened to our young goalkeeper and thankfully nothing that in anyway compares to what Patrick Bamford and his young family has endured.

But this continued rhetoric of praising Illan whilst apportioning criticism elsewhere, actually exacerbates the situation, not quells it.

My father used to tell me god rest his soul, you can never transfer your own ideals and values to another individual, you can only hold yourself to account.

Of course let him play, absolutely all credit to him when he’s due but like any player at every football club in the land, supporters will always criticise when they choose to, that’s been the way in football since day one and has become significantly worse through social media.

But the digs will not solve anything, but it’s not goalkeeper specific, Patrick Bamford will confirm I’m sure.

I agree op

No doubt he has made some errors like every player but a lot of these errors are not errors but in fact fans judging on a position they don’t understand


For example many say he is not dominant in the air when in fact he is decent at commanding area and with crosses in this area he is far stronger than martyn who was useless on crosses and controlling areas.

How do you know Meslier hasn’t received personal abuse from individuals? Judging by the way some on social media and other various forums have been venting their spleen about him he probably and very likely does, but unlike Bamford he may prefer to not make it public.
Not everything is perceived in the way it may appear and it would be naive to think so.
