I've read a report today that we are still wanting Canos and Fletcher but seeking both on loans deals with view to buy. why do we always seem to go for loan to buy deals more than permanent transfers. maybe i'm being pessimistic but I don't want to get to the end of the season knowing that our best players belong to other clubs.

I agree but I also think that currently we are not able to compete financially with Newcastle, villa, Norwich, Birmingham, reading etc. For us currently loan moves are the best option as we will be able to source the funds at a later date to buy these players. Garry knows what to do.

2.) 20 Jan 2017 12:14:03
Fletcher was always going to be on loan only, and canos would be a bad signing Imo.

3.) 20 Jan 2017 12:56:35
Reading made a massive financial loss last season and must be promoted or they're doomed. Can't see them spending silly money in January. Newcastle are only looking at loans. The likes of Villa are spending out of desperation to make the play offs and that never works out.

In Garry We Trust

Loans to buy is quite a common thing in Europe, especially in Italy. It's actually one of the better methods of signing players, especially with January signings as you'll know by the end of the loan if they've fit into your set up or not. Plus there's always a fee agreed beforehand so there's no moving of the goalposts come signing time. Like one of the other posters said, I wouldn't be too upset if we didn't splash the cash this month as those who are, are the ones who feel they need to. We're better saving our money for the summer.

6.) 20 Jan 2017 17:04:38
See Canos as the better of the two signings Swadlad. Fletcher is 21 and managed 5 Lg goals in Lg1 last term as a forward. Canos is only 19 and hit 7 in the champ as a winger. Not working out for him at Norwich but his style of play suits Monk (Similar to a young Hernandez).

Not saying he walks into the team but I think he could walk into a prem team in a year or two with the right guidance, also would be nice to take someone elses exciting young players rather than the other way around for once.

7.) 20 Jan 2017 18:47:27
Just don't rate canos, just don't see him getting into the team tbh, I mean if he's all we can sign then ok but if we are to challenge for a top 2 finish I think we need better, I was hoping someone like bakary sako or someone similar.

I'm delighted with the rate of which we are signing players even if I haven't heard of them. But I'd never heard of Pontus Jansson before he signed and look how that turned out. We surley will be seeing to players leave soon especially in midfield.

Who would be on your list? For me: Diagoura and Phillips - out on loan for experience because there is potential. Viera has to play, bridcutt can be a great player when he is up for it and honety O'kane is a solid championship player. Thoughts?

Good post Plumwhite, great point about Pontus and no one new who he was! It's like I said Radz and TC must see something on these new signings, Radz is a business man and i can't see him wasting money and in all fairness these signings are not cheap! Wolves have just spent £15M on one player! One player won't win the league! I think Radz has done well up to now and I for one can't wait to get going live on Sky! MOT

Our recruitment teams knowledge of players will be predominantly based in southern European football. I think we have to trust them (for now) that they know what they're doing. Also, we all know British players are overpriced, which is why I keep saying I'll be amazed if we buy a British player in the window (unless they're free or on loan) . We would never have paid £5m for Howson, as Orta would probably see that as £3m too much compared with what he could buy a similar player for from Spain for instance.

3.) 08 Jul 2017 14:16:01
Agree dw. If Alioski and Saiz were English, they'd cost £30m. There's some real gems abroad if you scout well enough. Jansson, Mahrez, Kante, Knockaert etc. The kind of players we're looking at, creative playmakers, aren't usually found in the Championship or in England anyway.

4.) 08 Jul 2017 15:52:55
Good post and great point about English or British creative midfielders, they are too and far between. The national
Team has struggled for years in this area imo and any that are good certainly wouldn't be coming too
Us as that will Be at a top prem team . over priced players don't often cut it. And with unknowns coming in. They could be a bag off tricks . keep up the good work Rads. Can't wait till season starts. MOT. DTP 🍺🍺👍⚽️⚽️😂

Looking forward to the Brum game. everybody seems to have an issue with Sacko and I'm not going to start trying to justify his lack of ability when it comes to crossing a ball. What Sacko has in abundance is pace and its brilliant to see him running full pelt at full backs. However, I would give Barrow a run in the team in his place. he also has a massive turn of pace and has played in English football for a number of years now. i'd also like to give pedraza a run of games but really think his loan is going to be one of those that people forget in a few years because it comes to nothing. Like when jimmy Kebe was supposed to be our saviour

Think we are become a very predictable team to play against. Same formation every week win lose or draw. Easy for teams to study us and learn to play against us. Time for a change to a plan b. In the current formation we rely on our number 10 being the creator of chances. Hernandez can be amazing one game and the next can't get into to and when that happen we look desperate. Why not play a 442 diamond. Bridcutt in front of the back four, Hernandez sat just behind wood and roofe. I start barrow too and the Spanish guy. See what they have got. Hmmm

Agree. We don't need to play 2 defensive midfielders when we are strong at the back, we've not enough attacking threat going forward. The only time we've looked lethal away from home was when Wood was out, yet the players seem to afraid to have a go and want Wood to score all the time.

2.) 19 Feb 2017 09:07:09
I agree plum good post. At home especially this would scare the life out of teams!

Really wish we brought in a CB in the window. . Pontus is 4 bookings away from a 3 match ban :/

Plumwhite

1.) 02 Feb 2017 09:16:35
Only until the end of the month though, that means he'd have to get a booking in almost every game from now on to get suspended, this resets at the end of the month so as long as he keeps a lid on things he'll be okay.

2.) 02 Feb 2017 12:31:38
"He'd have to get a booking in almost every game" Isn't that what he's doing? Don't get me wrong, i think he's great for us, but he looks like a yellow card every game to me.

3.) 02 Feb 2017 13:30:36
If he gets to 14 before the end of the month, drop him until the card ban ends.

4.) 02 Feb 2017 13:48:44
that would make sense SG. The lad plays his heart out and that's why we love him so, but it does mean he finds his way into the book fairly often as well. so be it.

5.) 02 Feb 2017 17:21:09
I think that 15 bookings goes to the end of the season therefore it is inevitable that he will miss 3 games before the end of the season.

Okay let's discuss this. POSITIVE'S: key players rested for league games. Obvious the league is priority. Didn't think out kids did badly. However: NEGATIVES: Does this show a lack of depth. When we rest key players our squad players can't beat Sutton?!?. Cooper. our third choice CB? Antonsson. Sorry not good enough. Forgot he was playing. We need a CB, winger and striker.

I just think Monk sensed blood and had a team full of in form attackers to choose from. Monk had selection headache as he wanted to give Hernandez and Wood more game time too. Sign of a top manager is taking risks and admitting when you get it wrong. Took the risk and 45 mins later admitted his mistake. 90 mins later - 3-0 MOT!

9 is definitely achievable. As for the automatics - genuinely can't see anybody catching Newcastle or Brighton to be honest.

Agree with Notts. I think Phillips will slot back into midfield. Bridcut's next game will be in the reserves for match practice. douks to go it alone up front with Sacko Dallas and roofe behind him. if fit then Antonsson on the bench and i'd leave Wood out all together.

I would love us to go for somebody like Tom Ince but would have to pay a hefty fee for him. Realistically what about Henri Lansbury? contract runs out at the end of he year?

Heres a curious question. do think Greens presence is having the desired effect on Silvestri. let's face it, Silvestri was expected to leave pre-season when he was told to train with the reserves. I think green has provided experience and competition which has made him better. can't see Green being our No1 next season. could we argue he was brought in to be a mentor of sorts to Silvestri who could well be our no1 next year?
