Very good under 23 performance today!

Brown just about lasted the 90, clearly tired in the last 15 but showed some classy touches and good finishes.

I mentioned the need to get 2 of Aapo, Hugo and Pascal playing together regularly. Well today the played all three with Pascal, left back ish and for the first half Pearce on the left wing.

Aapo has a great game solid in defense and pinging some great passes forward.

In the second half Robbie Gotts replaced Shackleton in midfield and Davis replaced Pearce. Those two changes made a real difference. Gotts, a real dynamo, great going forward. David more effective than Pearce.

KP played a full game, calm and assured and Jordan Stevens had one of the best games I've seen from him

Kun played up front and had a few good opportunities.

2-0 and particularly in the second half we should have had a fair few more as the post was hit a few times.

Brown looking better and getting close to being able to come off the bench, but I think he will have another 90 mins next week at least.

You can see the confidence that Aapo, Gotts and Davis have got from their time with the first team.

I turned round during the game and Pablo, Alioski and Beradi were stood right behind me. Lots of the first team drifted about watching the game at various times.

As it stands tonight Leeds too at Chanpionship, under 23 and under 18 level! Sweet!

I do like Gotts

Fair play to for first team players going to watch future and present team mates. That’s class

That’s the current ethos going through this club and a massive reason for why we will succeed.

2.) 14 Jan 2019 18:43:34
Love your reports on the under 23 games Spanish. Thanks for these and please keep them coming. I'm either getting old or dead lazy because I'm finding the trip to see these myself a bit burdensome. But I really do enjoy getting the inside juice on how the players are going.

3.) 14 Jan 2019 19:09:24
Did they instantly recognise you and say "hello Spainish, we like your reports"?

4.) 14 Jan 2019 19:26:58
Kiwi, I enjoy the games. It’s interesting apart from the game, who you see and what you hear in the chat going on around.

Next Monday it’s the Premier league Cup against Southampton, tough game and it’s been moved to Tadcaster Albion. 7pm kick off, £3 entry, worth it! Possibly get to see Brown again and one or two of the other returners in addition to a whole bunch of great regulars.

5.) 14 Jan 2019 19:27:19
Thanks Spanish for the match/ player report. All your posts are considered and sensible. I can always tell they are your posts before seeing the name at the bottom. Great to find out about the youngsters/ returnees. Keep them coming mot.

6.) 14 Jan 2019 23:29:39

7.) 15 Jan 2019 10:06:27
Spanish. Think we all love your reports, long may you keep posting them.

Two thoughts. 1.Do you fancy being Marcelo's new interpreter? I have heard some people think that he does not get the nuances of what Marcelo really says, particularly in the "Spygate" interview. Do you agree.

2. You say at the U23's games, "who you see and what you hear in the chat going on around" is interesting. Wouldn't that interest "spys" from another club? Actually your not a "spy" from another club are you?

8.) 15 Jan 2019 10:09:42
Love reading your reviews on U23's Spanish, think it was yourself who mentioned Clarke some time ago if so you have a good eye.

One more thought after seeing Bielsa at the under 23s tonight. I imagine that his feelings about recruitment for the first team are also effected by what he sees at under 23 and to a lesser extent under 18s. Because his emphasis is on training in and drilling patterns, playing style and fitness.

He can oversee that in all three teams. He can try out different ideas and formations. We have already seen what he has been able to do with largely last years first team, imagine how he feels when he sees two more full squads of young players keen to learn and impress. Given his work ethic, I'm sure he is constantly thinking about how he makes the most of that developing talent.

So the small first team squad, is a little bit of a myth as he draws on the other talent available that is constantly being prepared in the same way. Keep buying good young players with the right attitude and you build up the conveyer belt.

Top that up then with additional first team ready players when there is a clear gap. Possibly the speed of our success has caught everyone a bit by surprise, but if we keep this going each year for the next few years we are going to be able to harvest from a crop of fine young players, playing in the right way.

Good points well made Mr Spanish, I hope also that coaches and backroom staff are being "shown the way" for when the inevitable happens and Bub decides his project is finished. Would be good to have continuity in that department as well, recruitment from within.

2.) 08 Jan 2019 13:03:47
completely agree Spanish - this is what i believe the long term plan is.

3.) 08 Jan 2019 13:55:09
Great posts, all. 👍🏻.

4.) 08 Jan 2019 21:34:47
Very happy that everyone agrees!

5.) 09 Jan 2019 06:23:21
Totally agree Spanish, he’s building a whole club

Sadly the idea is to develop players to sell on as more come through as we do not have the money to buy the completed article

So new players coming in will be “ ones for the future” with a resale value

On the plus side, talented kids will want to go to Leeds because they know they will work under MB and unlike certain clubs, yes I mean you Chelsea, will get a chance to play.

Just got in, frustrating day, 22 chances, 7 on target at least 2 shots cleared off the line. But you can't win them all and we had three games against Sheffield United, Villa and Blackburn that could have gone the other way. No luck today .

What impressed me was that the players kept going until the final whistle including Pablo and Klich in particular who look tired.

If we have players in the squad we should be prepared to use them, Baker and Aaapo could give us a half each and allow a bit of a break for Pablo and Klich.

Fair play to Alioski, who has responded well over the Christmas period and is passionate about every last ball.

Players got an ovation at the end, despite the score and the crowd today were fantastic, willing the ball in but just not to be.

Finally well played to Hull, set them selves up well, took their chances.

Spanishleeds

1.) 30 Dec 2018 02:26:20
Spaniard I'm hoping Alioski is playing well because he's been told Ibai is coming. Alioski much better on right anyhow cutting inside.

2.) 30 Dec 2018 09:05:21
I know we get frustrated with him but his commitment and desire is massive. He has been caught offside less in the last few games and he always puts in a shift. Even from the bench he will have a role to play.

3.) 30 Dec 2018 12:15:57
I totally agree Spanish. He does put in a shift. He does track back. He does give 100% but is that enough. Does he regularily put in telling balls? Does he regularily beat his man? Does he regularily give the end product? Until he starts cutting in and beating the goalkeeper or at least assisting in a goal then for me, the jury is still out. I truly hope he does start finding the back of the net. I like him and applaud his defending (often because he lost the ball in the first place) but he does need to score a few.

4.) 30 Dec 2018 13:32:04
With you on that Leodis. Midfield need to be getting on score sheet more often. They were at beginning of season but gone off the boil a bit last couple of months. We boss most of our games so maybe some one needs to let fly now and again.

5.) 31 Dec 2018 14:38:38
Alioski filled in at left back for a game earlier in the season and looked amazing. Couldn't understand when Douglas was out a couple of games back, why we didn't put Alioski in there and start Clarke (I know Clarke is right sided but we could have shuffled it to accommodate)

6.) 31 Dec 2018 22:55:41
Alioski is everything we’ve asked for over the last few years. Effort, passion, and more effort. I personally can’t fault him. He’s a team man.

26 Dec 2018 20:00:26
Just got back, speechless! Atmosphere incredible, crowd and the coaching team willed the players on. If you get a chance to see Bielsa and the coaching team at the end, you see how deep the team spirit is going in this club.

Bielsa the most animated I have seen him but the coaching team more animated than sone of the fans. Wonderful to see. Don't be too hard on Bailey, the whole of this team make errors and miss chances, his stand out more but it's how the team responds together that really counts . Two promotion winning performances. Loving it!

Spanishleeds

1.) 26 Dec 2018 21:16:27
Amen Spanish, amen.

2.) 27 Dec 2018 07:23:02
We’ve got to remember that Bailey is still young and we don’t have a senior experienced goalkeeper for him to learn from. If we had an older experienced keeper, bailey’s positioning for their free kick would have been better. I hope we sign one but not to replace our keeper, only to improve the squad.

3.) 27 Dec 2018 19:56:52
I know what your saying Ever but does it miss the fact that we have a goalkeeping coach who if he is doing his job will be eradicating all errors.

4.) 27 Dec 2018 21:16:52
Our GK coach is a guy called Marcus Abad. Never played pro football.

23 Dec 2018 19:27:24
Surely even the most cautious of people on here will look at that performance and realize the key strength of this team. Douglas drops out during the warm up, three young lads used during the game, players out of position, Samu shopping with his girlfriend in Madrid and 2-0 down. Yet the players didn't give up and the stats show, the best team. We are not the finished article, but this is a team and a squad that is going to take some beating! Best Christmas present already opened! Well done fellas, thank you Marcelo and Merry Christmas to everyone on here. Time to believe!

Spanishleeds

1.) 23 Dec 2018 20:11:11
I started to believe the moment we scored against Stoke, even getting beat at the Baggies didn't shake me. Bring on the champions.

2.) 23 Dec 2018 20:57:18
Doesn't matter who we put on the pitch. Bub has an assembly line rolling out with young guns ready to fire and the team culture just keeps flowing. I don't care if he fields the Tea Lady. After today I believe in Santa Claus again but now he has shaved his beard, wears glasses and sits on a bucket.

3.) 23 Dec 2018 22:36:46
Three great posts! MOT!

4.) 23 Dec 2018 22:57:47
Great post Kiwi!

Spot on guys onwards and upwards.

The general tone of the conference appears to be that for him this is just part of the enormous amount of research and analysis that he does on each opponent for all their previous games. The training ground activity is just part of that and for him just another way of collecting information but in itself not giving him anything new that he hasn't got from other sources.

Spanishleeds

1.) 16 Jan 2019 17:51:24
He is showing that he his a professional and uses ever angle to do his job. As he said there is no law or rule about "spying" on your opponent. It's down to interpretation of its against fair play.

2.) 16 Jan 2019 17:53:07
Jeese Spanish I nearly filled my pants thinking he was going to walk.

3.) 16 Jan 2019 17:59:17
I know how you felt Martyn! Got worried when I heard all his staff were there! Wow, this man is unbelievable!

4.) 16 Jan 2019 18:49:08
He needs more staff, there was only 20 coaches in attendance ;)

16 Jan 2019 17:32:40
Wow! Talk about honesty! Detail of what he has done, how often and why he does it. Have to say the English translation I am reading doesn't seem very clear on some points. Still seem to be saying that he's not doing it for a tactical advantage but to give him information on expected team, formation and set piece tactics!

Works his nuts off! They should give him a medal not a punishment.

Not a bad week for an 18 year old. Man of the match performance in a key game in front of an adoring Elland Road Crowd. Then a bit of interest in you from some also ran Premiership clubs like Man City, Spurs and Arsenal!

JC you are the messiah, and we know you're not going to be a very naughty boy! Stay with us and help take us back to the promised land and grow into a premiership role with the club you love. You'll be a legend!

Just off the A162 junction of the A64, just behind the Samuel Smiths Brewery.

3.) 16 Jan 2019 16:01:59
Just a 2 min walk for me boys ALAW.

4.) 16 Jan 2019 16:13:52

5.) 16 Jan 2019 16:43:46
The angel is probably the best sams pub it has the shire horses in the stables at the back of the pub plus it’s the nearest boozer to the ground . If that helps Spanishleeds 🍺🐴.

15 Jan 2019 14:15:26
I see the Millwall boss has learnt nothing from Fat Frank about how not to motivate and wind up the Leeds team.

Following from his earlier comments that " Leeds are a disgrace" . Now he has felt the need to weigh in on Spygate!

For the way we play we deserve a match where we absolutely thump the opposition. Wouldn't it be lovely for it to come against Millwall so we can send Bermondsey back to London with something to gloat about!

Spanishleeds

1.) 15 Jan 2019 14:39:31
Can't stop laughing at Harris calling us a disgrace. He even said they would be keeping an eye on the footpath near their training ground.

Don't worry Mr Harris we don't spy on crap so you and your team of bullys are safe. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣.

2.) 15 Jan 2019 14:58:35
We're used to Millwall fans spouting hypocritical garbage. Hooksie has a message for you all.

3.) 15 Jan 2019 16:12:52
He keeps an eye on the footpath near their training ground. So What? Has he suddenly developed the ability or authority to prevent anyone from walking on public property?

4.) 15 Jan 2019 16:46:52
Sounds like he has conveniently forgotten all the disgraceful misdameaners his Club have committed over the years and been shown unbelievable leniency the the FA and FL.

5.) 15 Jan 2019 17:57:08
It's a deflection tactic because he's getting stick off their fans. er I meen fan.

6.) 15 Jan 2019 19:35:22
Lessons in behaviour off Millwall?

Erm

No thanks.

7.) 16 Jan 2019 01:52:03
Don't go on about that nice Millwoe lot, the FL loves them, family club of the year ;)

Thanks for that Leodis, don’t know a lot about him. What I like is Bielsa clearly going for young talent that he can clearly develop on the pitch. Obviously alongside much needed experience for the gk position.

Not to unveil Kiko according to the YEP, but more on Spygate. Not sure he needs to say anything more today. Possibly to clearly apologise and clarify that he won’t do it again. Also to keep it seperate from the football press conference tomorrow. Hope it’s nothing more than that, but with Bielsa you never quite know. I thought he looked terrible after the game on Friday but watching his body language talking to Orta yesterday, he seemed a lot more relaxed.

It’s a good point Kiwi, how many times does the bench goalkeeper get to do anything.

We might just be lining up different GK options in case one doesn’t come off but if we do get both of them that will be one big tick in the gk department.

With the under 23s we have, Huffer and Miazak. If Bailey drops back, one of those might go out.

I like Huffer and just wonder if in the medium term he might be the prospect. Really dominates his area. I was close to him and listening to what he was shouting . Constant encouragement and positional “coaching”. Very impressive.

Interesting! Perhaps the week where we had injuries to Blackman and Bailey is leading us to secure more strength in depth. With the outfield players, much more flexibility between the two squads of players, less options with the goalies, even KP, Alioski or Dallas couldn’t be that flexible!

I hope you’re right Wex, it was certainly pure Bielsa! I’m not sure it will stop a punishment but hopefully he has provided more context and background. Think there will still be a fine and perhaps a touch line ban with the request that it stops.

I can see where you are coming from Whiteman. I think that was very much Bielsas way. Didn’t seem to be any notice of the press conference on the official site and I don’t know if there as been anything since.

Although he did talk before about recognising the differences here, he didn’t apologise as far as I could see. Also he didn’t make it absolutely clear he wouldn’t do it again, although he sort of implied it the other day. He made quite a terse passing reference to the clubs statement on him as well. However he did seem to say he would accept the punishment. Correct me guys if any of those assumptions are wrong!

I hope now, that’s the end of it until the league / FA decision and we get back to football only.

I think he has though made it tough for the authorities to handle it, he’s given them more ammunition but they will run the risk of making him even more of a hero than he is already and could give the team even more motivation and desire to perform!
