Does anyone know if we are allowed to pick any of the returning loanees for the final three games?

Thinking of Cresswell, Shacks and Hjelde as they won't be involved in the play-offs.

Cleggy

{Ed002's Note - No, they are not available.}

I was hoping you weren't going to run this competition again this year George, it's an almost impossible task!

So many good posts by so many people (your good self included! )

It pains me to not vote for Brighty, 1970, Aus, Whitey and many more but here goes;

3rd Baz - always thought provoking

In second place I'm going for Woody - the comeback kid

But in first place I've got to go for someone who does his research and always makes the most reasoned posts - Dillinger.

Is this euro song contest or pots?

First time I've ever liked Red Bull:)

Well it looks like we may not have to worry about Burnley challenging us for promotion because rumours have it that Fat Frank is on their wish list! I really hope they get their man! Pretty please! ? ??.

2.) 30 May 2024 21:34:25
We couldn't be that lucky Woody and Burnley couldn't be that unlucky!

3.) 30 May 2024 21:43:06
Cleggy I used to love it until it gave me the jitters. Love them again.

4.) 30 May 2024 23:25:10
Fat Frankie? Surely not.

Woody fancy a Fu Man Chou Mein takeaway tonight? ☺.

5.) 31 May 2024 06:02:15
Was a little apprehensive about Burnley next season as Kompany had formed a good young squad and had them playoffs g some nice football, albeit lacking experience. I think they would've been a tough test next season. With Fat Frank I can rest easy knowing he will absolutely f*ck it all up.

And fwiw, I do actually think Kompany will make a good go of it at Bayern. He plays his brand of football with better and more experienced players and he can be a success.

6.) 31 May 2024 08:20:10
Dill. You’ve made your bed with positive Bayern comment. Incoming mate. lol.
Like kompany. Hope he does well.
Oh please let it be fat frank.

7.) 31 May 2024 12:29:13
Kompany did ok with Anderlecht, finishing 4th and 3rd - which is just about where you’d expect them to finish in that league, given the finance and players they have. With Burnley, he probably did as well as you’d expect given the level of players at his disposal. So, like Dilli, I’d not be surprised if he did well at Bayern, given the finance and players available to him.

8.) 31 May 2024 19:59:10
Well see, Aus ? but I do think he has the makings of a future top coach. I like his style and I think he's a smart, savvy guy.

The morning after the night before (well, technically it's the afternoon after the afternoon before! )

Disappointed but not overly surprised - Leeds United and the play offs is not a marriage made in heaven.

I think it was Manston who said yesterday 'get deals done soon', couldn't agree more!

Sell those out on loan as soon as we can and use the money to pay off the £70m to £100m loss (reports vary) - it won't pay it all but will help take a chunk out of it then start looking at serious bids only for our current squad. Cash in on Summerville and Gnonto, and sell Meslier for as much as we can get. Only sell Rutter if we have to (and if the bid is sufficiently high enough) but whatever we do, guard Archie for at least another 2 or 3 years (no point in him joining Liverpool or similar for £30/ 40m to warm their bench next season - it's not worth it either for him or for us) .

I'm more concerned with what we do with Farke. He hasn't done a bad job but from the position we were in, we should have got promoted. Normally I would be happy to say let him have another season however this summer there are one or two very useful people on the market.

Graham Potter and Steve Cooper spring to mind as viable options but the guy I would really like to see us go after is Cifuentes from QPR. They were a basket case when he took over yet the job he has done in turning them around and the high energy way in which they play has been hugely impressive.

I don't think for one minute the owners will get rid of Farke but if they do there are credible alternatives out there.

Just my opinion, doubtless you'll have yours - ten weeks till we start again so let the debate begin but above all, don't be too down-hearted, we are Leeds and we will be back:)

Top post again Cleggy

applause ??.

2.) 27 May 2024 14:41:38
Cheers Baz, getting it off my chest after yesterday!

3.) 27 May 2024 15:29:50
Excellent post Cleggy, and actually having the Nutz and nouse to come up with names should the unlikely happen, and Farke is chopped!
I do like the QPR shout in particular out of those mentioned, as I was very impressed by them as they dispatched us, and liked the style of play he uses.
Potter wants a bigger job, and I just don’t get Cooper personally, dunno why, tho doubtless he could do a job.

4.) 27 May 2024 15:47:40
Welcome Cleggy.

5.) 27 May 2024 17:01:20
I think you typed the word most Leeds fans would be feeling now and that is Disappointed.
Although the expectation for success always rides very high at our club, it’s no more than what we have dealt with on numerous occasions.
I honestly feel Farke will have a much better grip with next season and although auto promotion is not a given, I’d be very surprised if he didn’t achieve exactly that.
There will definitely be some departures of the current squad but not as many as some might think in my opinion. Willy and Jimmy are almost certain to leave, I have the impression Rodon would love to stay at the club and help us get promoted next season, same goes for Rutter, I think he also gets the club and fans.

I am probably one of the very few that would like Mez to stay and as a goalkeeper he is still developing, I would however like to see a better veteran Gk than Darlow to push Mez on.
We should be also looking for a RB if Robert’s is not for sale, as said before, it’s difficult to equate his time with us, not seen enough of him.
As for Firpo he does tick the right boxes for Farkes style.
The midfield is somewhat ordinary, Gruev and Kamara do blow hot and cold.
Archie could very well be that attacking midfielder we’ve needed for so long, I hope Farke utilizes him in that role next season, scoring goals is a part of that, can he do that?
It’s amazing the expectation of this young 18 year old and he seems to deal with it incredibly.

Final note, get rid of every loan clause player, they don’t deserve to play at Leeds Utd.

6.) 27 May 2024 17:21:58
Don't disagree with a word of that OP.

Anyone can go except for Archie is the mantra I'm clinging to this summer:)

7.) 27 May 2024 17:29:30
Replacing Meslier with a reliable much better gk is absolutely imperative

An entire new defence as Rodon unlikely to be there next season

Stick Ampadu back in mf
The squad also needs 3 new mf recruits. creativity and goals

New pacy goalscoring CF preferably 2

IF a huge offer comes in for Archie Gray . accept it. to help finance a much needed huge rebuild.

8.) 27 May 2024 18:02:24
Opti the midfield is Gray+Ampadou. Sorted.

9.) 27 May 2024 18:40:59
Oh great Leo a midfield of Amps and Gray. a midfield with zero league goals scored zero assists ?

That isn't a promotion midfield.

10.) 27 May 2024 18:58:09
Sell Archie Baz, are you the third anti Christ?
Why on earth would you sell the future of Leeds United. I know you’re a wind up merchant and love the attention but you do post some crap at times.

Leodis it is important that Farke does get his midfield selection right for next season. I do believe Farke sees Ampadu as a center back and tbh he does look impressive in that position for us.

11.) 27 May 2024 19:14:11
Baz you just posted before to stick Ampadu back in MF? Then you say oh great Leo Ampadu and Gray a MF with zero goals and zero assists! Make your mind up mate! You’ve started already and the new season is ten weeks away! ??.

12.) 27 May 2024 19:17:26
Attention seeking Baz? Moi OP?

Nah

Seriously

Leeds need CASH, finance, dosh, spondoolies . to regenerate this team and squad .15 new players!

Along with profit sustainability issues IF a huge bid comes in for Archie Gray of £40 million plus take it.

Sentimentality OP isn't getting promotion. get in the real world ? fella.

13.) 27 May 2024 19:30:37
That’s the problem with Baz, he often makes conflicting posts and seems unable to make his mind up, but when he does he constantly changes it to whatever the current situation arrives at. ?.

14.) 27 May 2024 19:30:44
Did he look impressive when he unnecessarily stepped up into Saints midfield trap causing a gaping hole in our defence allowing Strongarm the freedom of northwest London producing a carbon copy goal like the league game?

15.) 27 May 2024 20:00:24
Woody and OP wake up/ keep it real hombres ? :

I clearly stated

"Amps is not a CD . he is a midfielder"

In midfield
"Amps AND sign 3 new midfielders creative and goal scoring midfielders " for our squad

Amps and AG as a midfield 2 isn't getting Leeds United promotion that's a given

A midfield of 3 would be in my starting 11 choice. Amps and a CAM and another progressive goal scoring midfielder.

16.) 27 May 2024 21:14:57
I did say the future of Leeds United, he’s an 18 year ol kid who is showing already amazing potential and maturity. The short terminisme is very evident in some. If you really believe Archie is not worth holding onto and believe he is talentless then there is truly no hope and only despair which is all I read from certain posters on here.
It’s quite sad really in my opinion.

17.) 27 May 2024 23:28:15
OP ? if I thought AG was ' talentless ' i would not have suggested a £40 million plus bid acceptance

Hercule Poirot, Sherlock Holmes you most certainly are not.

18.) 27 May 2024 23:47:11
That said OP his great Uncle Eddie Gray would be worth £100 milion plus in today's market . seriously gifted . better than George Best . a thousand Jack Grealishes and yes much much better than Archie Gray.

19.) 27 May 2024 23:52:36
You keep Arch definitely and reject incoming bids (unless the bid is £95+M) . You integrate his younger brother into the squad next season too. You also hope the Hampton South fan doesn't get reelected otherwise there could be need for a munitions cabinet and assault course at Thorp Arch.

20.) 28 May 2024 06:01:00
You will not be getting offers of 40 Mil + for an 18 yr old championship player. I just find it amazing you would think it would be a good idea to sell him!?

I’m pretty sure his family are not advising him to leave, nor do I think he personally wants to either.
I believe he will be at the helm of team in the Premiership by the end of next season and he will be one of the main reasons why we will achieve that.

21.) 28 May 2024 10:04:07
Hang on Ms Marple . four years ago a 17 year old Championship player "Hey Jude" went to Dortmund for £35 million transfer fee

You couldn't make up OPs posts ?.

22.) 28 May 2024 18:42:08
Archie Gray is not the freak Bellingham is and it still wasn’t 40 Mil. I don’t need to make it up, it’s just what it is.
The disappointment is that you would prefer to get rid of him, same time you would like want away Harrison to return. Sad ethics in my mind.

26 May 2024 09:47:05
Good luck to us all today.

Couldn't get tickets but no matter - will be watching from the comfort and security of my sofa. To be more accurate, from behind the sofa especially when Southampton are on the attack!

As you say Baz, COME ON LEEDS, DO IT!

Being optimistic is one thing, and yes, we still have a chance of gaining promotion however, a dose of harsh reality is needed;

Firstly, our good form of a couple of months ago has totally deserted us. Can't see us winning at Wembley playing the way we are.

And secondly, if we were to go up, could this squad survive? How much strengthening would we have to do, and could we afford it?

Heart wants us to gain promotion (heart wants us to win every game:) but head says we would be better off staying where we are for another season - I know that will cost financially and that several players will go but I would ask everyone to consider (again) where we were 12 months ago. at least this time our owners aren't going anywhere and we have a manager in place. In other words, we can make plans and implement them very shortly rather than waiting until mid-August before anything happens.

It may end up being a bitter pill to swallow but it might be worth it in the long run!

1.) 04 May 2024 17:18:34
Fair post Cleggy.

2.) 04 May 2024 17:29:57
Deluded if you think staying in the Championship another season is helpful.

3.) 04 May 2024 17:44:54
Good post Cleggy, and definitely not deluded!

4.) 04 May 2024 17:47:29
it's the old question Cleggy. Would you rather miss promotion, stay in the champs and watch a winning team most weeks, battling for promotion OR go up and watch a losing team going nowhere except down?
In essence a yoyo team at best.

5.) 04 May 2024 17:51:03
Personally I would not mind missing out (I would be ecstatic to go up) and now that DF has had chance to evaluate the team, buy well with a longterm view of going up and staying up. This time buying wisely and not being sidetracked with all the s**t going on last summer.

6.) 04 May 2024 18:03:23
I feel more deflated today, compared to last seasons relegation.
From the high of beating Leicester and the stadium rocking, to the lows of Sunderland through to today and a very toxic, nervy atmosphere
We're the team everyone wants to beat, well its time the players dig deep and find their form, we have 3 cup finals to win.

7.) 04 May 2024 18:56:20
Fair post Leodis…I’m not fussed either way to be honest. On balance, I prefer winning (more) games more than watching us struggle. We’re struggling now and it’s sad to see. To be honest, I’m looking forward to the playoffs because, regardless, they are a spectacle to be part of, rather than in any expectation of success.

It would be nice to win at Wembley I suppose.

I’m satisfied with the season; by and large it has been enjoyable v what the last two have been like.

What I don’t like, is the impending “reset and start again” that will follow if we don’t make it.

8.) 04 May 2024 19:27:13
It’s strange emotions for me. Like last season’s relegation, today there was no real expectation of a positive outcome, since on both occasions it had largely been settled in the penultimate game. I was more disappointed in the game and result, rather than what it meant. The crowd never really got going…nor did the team.

I was far more devastated with Bielsa’s first season failure.

9.) 04 May 2024 18:11:32
Staying down means the following losses:

1. No EPL revenue. Huge.
2. Brakes on stadium ?️ expansion. Huge. New SCC rules makes stadium ?️ expansion critical for improvement. Meanwhile player valuations increase along with construction ? costs.
3. Loss of better players such as Summerville, Gnonto and Rutter.
4. Above personnel loss means a 70 g/ a season void needs filling. Challenging to say the least.
5. Younger assets (Gray the even younger) more vulnerable to being pinched.

Yep, it's another worldbeater.

10.) 04 May 2024 22:40:26
6.Leeds can go up Georgey but not with some of these overrated pretenders.

11.) 05 May 2024 00:34:25
You right Baz but there's something rotten in the club again. The lack of desire and quality on show upsetting.

12.) 05 May 2024 02:00:18
Indeed George. something definitely rotten with 4 or 5 certain players .2nd season running too.

13.) 05 May 2024 09:42:50
I agree George. Nailed that list there, fella.

I'm sure he's a very decent guy, certainly comes across as one, however the one thing that always makes me scream at the TV is whenever England score a goal at a major tournament the camera will focus in on David Beckham celebrating in the crowd - as if he were our greatest ever footballer, who won every major honour in an England shirt.

No, he didn't. He was the captain of the so-called 'Golden Generation' who won FA! Didn't even make the semis in any tournament either.

If they have to recognise someone in the crowd then focus in on Geoff Hurst - he did actually win something!

Apologies for the rant but it winds me up every single time!

The kids got talent but did spend a lot of his previous time with us on the floor - and that was in the Premiership where you get some level of protection from VAR decisions.

As OP says, he needs to toughen up because they'll be no such protection in the Championship and could end up getting kicked from pillar to post.
