Chelsea's Bigger Problem Behind the Scenes

20 Apr 2026 07:39:13
{Ed's Note - Greenaway has posted a new article entitled, Chelsea's Bigger Problem Behind the Scenes

1

20 Apr 2026 11:31:07
Let's be honest, none other than Chelsea's own feel any sympathy here.
A club nowadays the poster club of how not to run a club.

It all seems so wrong on & off field, and mindboggling the way money just flows through a stinking carcass.

3

20 Apr 2026 14:02:14
Chelsea are in bad form atm. Karma coming maybe.

1

21 Apr 2026 07:28:36
That owner doesn't deserve any success.

19 Apr 2026 19:24:50
Zian Flemming has an excellent goals to minutes ratio in a struggling Burnley side, could be a good investment and in keeping with our budget?

1

19 Apr 2026 20:35:59
Hopefully our budget is bigger than the players like Flemming?
However, having said that, he's had a good season, and at the right price he could be a good player off the bench.

1

19 Apr 2026 20:49:05
Young and importantly fit. Corkey has two less goals than DCL in five less games, doesn't take penalties. Think he's a good squad option.

1

19 Apr 2026 22:09:56
Agree, Class.

1

20 Apr 2026 01:03:49
I still think Artem Dovbyk would be a great signing if we can land him.

1

20 Apr 2026 01:20:32
Think Flemming is a player who definitely has a 'right price' for us, probably in the 10-12m area, maybe a swap deal for Piroe, who would be very effective for them in Champ, but doesn't quite suit the more physical style we play these days.

There might be more options, but I like Hartman too - he's linked up with Flemming for assists a few times this season, so maybe throw them 10m and Piroe for the pair of 'em.

I like Krejci at Wolves too, or De Cuyper at Brighton, who isn't always their first choice, but had an insane number of set piece goal involvements (either scoring direct free kicks or assisting from corners and crosses) .

2

20 Apr 2026 09:43:39
My Burnley mate tells me that Dubravka has been their best player this season, but he's older than Darlow. He also likes Flemming (good goal ratio, but at 27 he isn't one for developing, with a possible sell-on value) , Esteve, and Hartman.

There are always some gems in the relegated sides, even Spurs if they go down. They're beginning to play Simons, and he's started to show what he can do, but maybe too late.

1

20 Apr 2026 13:06:40
Krejci looks a good footballer, especially for a CB.

1

19 Apr 2026 18:34:21
The only thing Arteta and Arsenal have to look forward to is Spurs being relegated. Surely they've got to come out of this season with some sort of pyriic victory. 🤣

3

19 Apr 2026 19:37:45
Gooners fans had boasted a few months ago about a potential quadruple.

But, they will end the season with not even one trophy.

Spuds won't go down, imo.

So, another whammy for the Gooners.

4

19 Apr 2026 18:33:04
Fair play to Haaland for not crashing to the ground after Saliba put his head on his. DCL same kinda player, a man who goes into battle and gives as good as he gets with no cheating. Shame he can't finish his chances like Erling 🤣.

5

20 Apr 2026 01:32:44
I'd not be so confident to say Spuds won't go down. At present, it looks like it's either them or Wet Sham, but we're not safe yet, and neither are Forest. I don't see Spuds getting more than 7 points from their remaining games, and as we're 8 ahead, we should be safe, but I've oft been wrong before, so I'm just keeping everything crossed.

2

20 Apr 2026 15:14:05
I think you're right, JR, though there is a caveat - they still have to play us [as do West Ham] and that still keeps us in the mix, especially if we lose this week and / or have huge FA Cup disappointment. I still feel there are some twists to come; we need another 3 or 4 points in my opinion.

I am a very cautious individual and we might not need any more points in reality!

I somewhat agree with Baz, that rationally [irrationally!] you cannot see Spurs being relegated, but WH and Forest are both playing decently.

I predicted Forest at the beginning of the season [+Brentford and Burnley!], but they're playing pretty good at present. West Ham seem to have the hardest run, especially with Arsenal to play; they have the worst GD too. Spurs have to click at some point.

Tonight is a big night and I hope pride means Palace turn up.

3

20 Apr 2026 16:13:34
Good post, Ani.
100% agree.
It would be bloominh lurvely if 39 points is enough to stay up.
But, I believe we will need 43 points to stay up.

1

19 Apr 2026 10:47:32
Only 9 points off Chelsea in 6th and 8 above Spurs in 18th- not bad eh. And both of them dropping points like they went out of fashion

7

19 Apr 2026 11:37:01
Hold your horses, lads. It's not over.

The thing is.

Yesterday, Spuds under De Zerbi actually played pretty well vs a good Brighton side.

Pretty sure Spuds will comfortably beat Leeds, as usual at their ground, so the crux will be, can an improved Spuds win 3 or even 4 out of their remaining 5 matches? Possibly so.

Peeps predicting Spuds relegation, hold on a tad.

3

19 Apr 2026 13:00:56
They might of played a little better than previously, but the tension and anxiety levels going through their players and fans really look like it will be too much for them to deal with. De Zerbi is also way too emotional, and probably exasperates their anxiety.

I would say we would probably beat them, with possibly not needing anymore points at their ground. It's too late for them, and I can't see anything other than relegation.

1

19 Apr 2026 13:11:51
No way they beat Villa. Chelsea or Everton. Or us, or 3 of 4. We are safe.

1

19 Apr 2026 14:03:47
Well, hope you are right, OP and Aus. We shall see.

2

19 Apr 2026 17:53:15
Can't see Leeds losing 5 games on the trot. Pretty certain we'll bag a few more points. Why all of a sudden would Spurs win 4-5 games?

4

19 Apr 2026 18:11:36
Gelderd
Spurs have many of their key players back from injury and are likely imo to beat Wolves away and Leeds at home.

That's 2 wins for starters.

Their toughest match is Villa away, but the Chelsea away and Everton at home are more winnable.

It wouldn't surprise me if they were to win 4 out of their 5 remaining matches. Hope I am completely wrong.

The point is they are far from down yet.

6

19 Apr 2026 18:57:06
I agree, Baz.
The good thing is we have three teams chasing us and I can't see all three catching us.
I reckon we will get a minimum of 4 points but I expect 8.
Four points will be enough.

4

19 Apr 2026 19:39:41
Defo.Corky,
We need 4 points from 5 games. .. 43 points.

Hammers won't get 43.

3

19 Apr 2026 22:50:19
Enjoy the weekend, but it's still a long way to go. 6 games, which are all very important, as Farke said, job not yet done. Great game. It's just one more, we move on to the next game.

2

20 Apr 2026 05:09:12
Seven games Whitey!

Corkey. 🤞👍

I’ve got sympathy for the Leicester fans but not the club. Looks very much like they will be relegated to League 1.
Their cheating cost us promotion and three star players from our club.
They deserve everything that's coming their way.

Still on the Championship, what’s the betting that Fat Frank will jump ship from Cov and take a higher profile coaching job?
I feel like I want to give him credit for getting Coventry promoted but let’s not forget Mark Robbins did all the hard work with that club, Frank just licked the cream and swallowed the cherry.

3

19 Apr 2026 11:03:14
Great point, OP, on Mark Robbins, who did remarkably well in the most trying environment.

As for Leicester, I'm proposing the phrase..

"What goes around, comes around" is shortened to "Leicester City".

3

19 Apr 2026 11:41:52
Defo no sympathy for Leicester City, the club.

Quite a number of their "better" players seemed to have thrown in the towel, hardly tried, wanting out.

1

19 Apr 2026 11:51:38
It may just be a poor environment there right now, Justin had shown promise, but that and injuries meant he was viewed as a 'meh' backup signing. Look at him now.

If they were to go down, we could do a lot worse than taking a look at Fatawu. I get that he had a very big injury, but he's had a decent season in a bad team (9 league goals) .

If we could snag him for a similar price to what we paid for Justin, then it would feel like money well spent. Maybe offer them Harrison in exchange (haha that won't happen) .

1

19 Apr 2026 12:50:38
Ealing, I like the offering of Harrison plus cash for Fatawu, but sadly they probably wouldn't want him, and you're right, it wouldn't happen.

1

19 Apr 2026 14:05:12
Yep, L1 Leicester signing £90,000 a week Jack Harrison .. bound to happen.

0

19 Apr 2026 14:53:23
Yes, and he still wouldn't be worth a fraction of that salary.

1

19 Apr 2026 19:01:07
Harrison the perfect example of a coach making a player perform way above his ability. Bielsa has done this with so many players.
What's happened to the cockney oracle, Bermo? Banned again no doubt?

5

18 Apr 2026 21:57:05
One last post and I’ll leave you lads alone.
How good has Darlow been since he came into the side?
So solid with some exceptional saves.

And if James Justin had played more than half of the season he would be my player of the season as he’s literally been unbelievable and should be in the England squad.

8

18 Apr 2026 22:49:43
100 Corky re Darlow and Justin.

And how good was that Pabloesque assist by Brendan Aaranson for Okafor's goal. It surprised even me in its quality.

5

18 Apr 2026 22:50:28
Player of the season imo is DCL.

5

18 Apr 2026 23:26:50
The assist was great, but the deflection made it.

3

19 Apr 2026 00:08:11
Aaronson's ball for Okafor was sublime. As Baz said, Pabloesque.
Okafor did become a bit flicky after his goal. I think a bit gassed out after Monday, but it was good to see Gnonto come on and play well and put the ball through for the pen.

After the two early goals, we didn't let the tempo of the game drop, and a better team could have punished us. But all good.
And, could I just clear up, did we sign James Justin from Leicester or was it Hugo Sanchez?

4

19 Apr 2026 04:20:29
Chuckle chuckle, Baz. Nice try.

0

19 Apr 2026 10:25:41
Not a great game or performance, but it is still a 3 - 0 win. So, a potential banana skin overcome and job done.

3

19 Apr 2026 11:43:33
Nah, Aus.

Genuinely, most sincerely, DCL has been Leeds United's best and most important player this season.

AiMO.

1

19 Apr 2026 11:57:44
Think DCL has been very very good, but my vote for player of the season would see Gabby just edge him out.

1. Gudmundsson
2. DCL
3. Ampadu
4. Rodon
5. Justin/Bogle shared.

Beyond that, though, so many players have gone through patches of form at exactly the right time to this point of the season. When one player is a little off/inj etc, someone steps up. BA had an incredible period around xmas.

Stach was incredible between New Year and the injury. Okafor has been very important, obviously, recently. Darlow has proven very competent. Nmecha has been critical in holding the line when DCL was adjusting to a new team and scoring two critically late goals against Everton and Fulham (without those we'd be 4 points worse off) . Tanaka has had his moments too, with limited gametime.

4

19 Apr 2026 12:14:55
Gabby player of Seez.
Edwards must have felt the same also yesterday.

The majority of what they did came down their left, and was kept far away from him, and hence his impact was minimal, but that's ok as he has plenty of credit in the bank. 🤣

2

19 Apr 2026 13:13:01
Gabby has zero goals and zero assists. Can a player win Player of the Year with those stats?
100% he can, as he's been very, very good, and has created numerous chances which haven't been taken.

Gabby
DCL
Justin
Stach.

1

19 Apr 2026 13:15:20
U got Justin Okafor below dcl Ealing. Shame on you. I mean we all know Baz is a fruitloop but please. Be sensible.

1

19 Apr 2026 14:08:20
Gabi reminds me a tad of Ian Harte.. good going forward, but not great defensively.

We look vulnerable, and have conceded quite a lot of goals from his side of the pitch.

He is defo not player of seez.

2

19 Apr 2026 14:13:46
Aus, be sensible.

Justin was bench warming first half of season.

And Okafor had no goals or assists for around an 18 game stretch.. yes, he has been excellent in recent matches.

Only Ampadu and possibly Rodon rival DCL for player of seez in Baz Book.

2

19 Apr 2026 17:16:35
Baz, he was definitely getting caught out at the start of the season, defensively, but has improved as the season progressed.

Aus, without DCL, I don't believe we'd have as many points. He is pivotal to our attacking play. Nmecha and Piroe can't do the lone striker role with the same effect. Eleven goals, not too shabby for a team near the bottom, either?

3

19 Apr 2026 17:39:15
Completely agree, Corky, 100 💯, re DCL being pivotal to our attacking play.

I take your point somewhat that Gabi has improved defensively as season progresses, but for me he defo isn't player of seez.

2

20 Apr 2026 06:49:27
No, you got it all wrong. Player of the season is, wait for it — BA. 😄😄 He has worked so hard, takes opposing players away, leaving gaps for others to move freely, scoring and assisting, an all-round player who never stops.

2

20 Apr 2026 10:36:23
Player of the season? A very hard choice to make.
IMO ive only got a shortlist of Gabby, Bogle, Justin, Rodon, DCL.
Followed by Stach, Amps, Darlow.
Although the rest have had some great games, I really cant decide yet.

So I'm gonna give it to the scorer of the winning goal who wins us the FA Cup. Fingers crossed, or it keeps us safe officially.
Just my opinion, guys.

2

18 Apr 2026 21:49:27
I am absolutely delighted for Farke and loved his after match interview.
I like the guy I really do.
I really hope he proves me wrong and becomes a successful Leeds United manager.

8

18 Apr 2026 22:53:47
Good post, Corky.
I'll give Farke his dues. He is 120 % uber committed to the Leeds United cause. Kudos.

5

19 Apr 2026 10:26:37
He deserves to carry on next season for me.

3

18 Apr 2026 21:37:42
Agent Rutter, thank you, your mission is accomplished.
