Can I propose a “hydration” break after every goal. The reason for this is to help replenish the entire team (including it appears all the subs) who uncontrollably rush to the corner flag screaming in anger or joy (still trying to work out which) for a love in with their mates.

Reminds me of many a party in the 1960s but that another story I won’t dwell on. It’s all getting a bit ridiculous don’t you think, seems everyone has to kiss and hug everyone else and scream sweet nothings before the actual scorer preens and showboats in front of the now crazed fans.

Lol. My favourite showboating was the scorer of the 2nd goal, a worldie for Cape Verde vs the Argies, who upon scoring

- raced away, Usian Blot speed, avoiding all and sundry.

- and then clambered up the stadium and into the crowd like he has just won the Wimbledon tennis finals.

Embrace it 1970. It's Hollywood babyyy!

05 Jul 2026 13:44:52
Wow. You were in the kitchen at parties in the 60s 1970. Impressive.
Agree about goal celebrations. Guarantee yanks insisted on it. Boring.

05 Jul 2026 16:10:04
Not the kitchen, Ausman, but in retrospect that would have been a wiser choice!

05 Jul 2026 03:23:08
I've said before that some referees from minor footballing nations are not up to the standard required to officiate at the World Cup. The Uzbek referee for the Paraguay v France game was a total disgrace, and clearly not competent to handle a match of that stature. How on earth Paraguay ended up with not a single yellow (or red) card is beyond belief.

This man should not handle another match at this tournament, and how he got on the FIFA elite list in the first place is beyond me. I almost suspect he may even have taken a backhander to try to fix the result.

Makes you think when Oliver and Taylor look decent, when we know how bad they are!

04 Jul 2026 21:06:29
Question. Are we the only club to have had two x managers at this World Cup?

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jul 2026 21:49:47
3 ex managers Prime.

Marcelo with Uruguay.
Brenty with Canada.
TC with Panama.

And yep.

04 Jul 2026 21:54:54
Three, actually: Marcello Bielsa (Uruguay) , Jesse Marsch (Canada) and Thomas Christensen (Panama) .

04 Jul 2026 22:11:12
Beat me to it, Baz. 😀

04 Jul 2026 16:06:21
If Suzuki chooses Juve, he can get on his bike. Not wheelie good anyway.

Agree3 Disagree0

04 Jul 2026 20:17:42
We are supposedly ahead of Juve on this one!?

04 Jul 2026 21:54:32
I will eat my hat if we sign Suzuki or Trafford..

Baz Likelihood Rating 0/10.

The smart money is on Darlow still being Leeds United number 1 this forthcoming season, upon his eventual agreement of a new 2 year LUFC contract.

05 Jul 2026 07:02:56
Whose smart money is that, Baz? He hasn't signed yet, which shows a lack of commitment in my eyes.
His distribution is poor, and he is caught dithering too often, as well as feeding out too many hospital passes. Yes, he did a good job when promoted to #1, but we need better.

05 Jul 2026 07:15:28
Said the same thing all last season, and in the Welsh game he made hospital passes. I fully agree, he has done his bit, hasn't signed when offered, so move on. I believe he thinks he is better than he really is. But he did make some great saves, so thanks but no thanks is the saying.

05 Jul 2026 07:25:27
Whitey, pal, give me KD all day long over the likes of Meslier and Perri.

If I were KD, I would want to play, be number 1. He'll more likely get that with Daniel Farke than displacing Pickford at Everton or Lammens at Man U.

I am still reasonably confident he will sign a new Leeds contract.

Spending £30 million on a keeper, I prefer it elsewhere.

05 Jul 2026 08:42:05
Spot on, Baz.
Just to add a bit of context. Everton pay their second string keepers less than Darlow, but Man U pay more. Even Tom Heaton, fourth in the pecking order, is on a bigger wedge.
Perri earns nearly double what KD does, warming the bench.

05 Jul 2026 10:11:59
Bright, don't know where you're getting that distribution is bad from?
Way, way better than Perri & Meslier. Less said, the better. He was shocking!

05 Jul 2026 10:34:54
Indeed.

Well said, both Dune and Adrenalin72.

Spot on!

05 Jul 2026 11:32:27
It must be all those crap long balls he plays, straight to their defence, and those dodgy short ones that get our defenders injured, that created that impression! Didn't compare him to anyone else, as that's futile with those you mention as the base for comparison. Simply a statement, that it ain't good enough.

05 Jul 2026 12:57:31
Baz, Adrenaline, I must admit I did like Messier, so judgement is bad on goalkeepers, but unfortunately, I have to fully agree with Brightwhite, and now he refuses to sign looking to see if we can get elsewhere before he may agree to play for Leeds and in my book that is sod of now. Sorry to disagree with you both.

04 Jul 2026 13:16:36
Juventus apparently also in for Suzuki. I do feel that we can secure a keeper at least as good as him for half the reported £30m asking price.

Agree4 Disagree0

04 Jul 2026 13:55:26
Dave, how about one of the good, reliable Aussie keepers, Matt Ryan or Beach, for a fraction of £30 million.

And save that money for much needed upfront reinforcements.

04 Jul 2026 14:12:28
Agree. Let's fill the needed spots first. Cb. Decent striker. Then gk. It's not rocket science. Or, are they just trying to show effort with cheap deals so don't need to spend on what's needed.

04 Jul 2026 15:19:31
For a new gk, Atubolu at Freiburg looks good, and would likely be cheaper than Suzuki. He is talked about as the long-term replacement for Neuer in the Germany team. Hull were keen on him, but maybe he'd fancy us above a newly promoted (maybe soon to be relegated) team.

04 Jul 2026 15:29:25
Juventus are looking to move on their current keeper Di Grigorio and have sold one of their young keepers, Daffara, to Parma for about EUR6m so they're in the market. Have asked about Martinez as well, but Villa are reluctant at the moment.

The price being quoted for Suzuki is a bit steep for them, and I think too much for us as well. Agree. Spend the big money elsewhere and look for a cheaper alternative. Lammens was considerably cheaper, and he had a good season.

04 Jul 2026 20:14:11
I'm not sure who I'd go for, but £30m for Suzuki does seem excessive. Trafford loan with obligation would be good, but no buy back and no sell on clause!

04 Jul 2026 20:18:42
Trafford is a big no for me, irrespective of what deal we could get.

04 Jul 2026 22:34:12
I'd not mind Trafford, but not on the sort of terms MC are virtually certain to ask.

05 Jul 2026 08:45:52
City are buying back keeper Pierce Charles from Wednesday, so there might be some movement on keepers. He was in their academy, but they let him go.
His brother was also there - Shea Charles.

05 Jul 2026 11:07:07
With it being a Suzuki, can we do a part exchange?

Why United Keep Missing Midfield Targets

{Ed's Note - newnameoldideas has posted a new article entitled, Why United Keep Missing Midfield Targets

04 Jul 2026 02:22:00
Things slow with lufc, other clubs straight on it but we seem to always have drawn out saga with a player every window.
I think we should drop interest in Charles, move onto others.
Need creativity and goal scorer, imo id go for Mane from Wolves and Jonh Duran as striker, not happy apparently with loan in Russia and approx 20 mil.

Agree2 Disagree0

04 Jul 2026 07:41:02.
I'd avoid Duran like the plague.
Kids talented but just look how many clubs he's had in like 2 years?
He clearly brings problems.

04 Jul 2026 10:56:12
I'd honestly say Kevin Pina, the Cape Verde defensive mid. He's been class. He's on 8k a week, market value of £5m.

04 Jul 2026 13:56:43
The two Cape Verde goalscorers vs Argies both impressed.

Cape Verde are the best thing about this WC for me.

04 Jul 2026 14:13:58
So much value to be had at lower level teams at World Cup. 2-3 fillers for 20 coin total.

04 Jul 2026 15:09:27
Yes, but will those players from lower ranked nations who look good in one-off games at the World Cup be able to hack it week in and week out in the PL? Those with proven track records may be more expensive, but are likely to be a better bet in the long run.

04 Jul 2026 00:24:05
Forget Charles for £30m. I would look at the Coae Verde midfielder Kevin Pina from Krasnodar.
£5m market value on 8k a week last year of contract.

03 Jul 2026 22:31:39
I like Darlow but he needs to sign now or move on. We need a top class keeper in before pre season or we will struggle.
