Argentina continue their attempt to be the best boring team on the planet. Another long VAR check when it was bloody obvious penalty. Good to see Messi miss though.

I suppose the rain break will give them time for hair and make up to be touched up!

Liverpool are looking for around £30m, wages £50k, would be a good signing I think.

For the whole team? Good deal. I agree. 😁

Great deal, but they can keep VVD.

I forgot to add, for Curtis Jones.

Not worth £30M to me, maybe £20M, and in any case Amps, Stach, Tanaka or Shea Charles are all as good. If he was worth keeping, they'd not be looking to sell.

Is it just me that thinks the Charles move doesn't make too much sense, we already have cover for CDM and the value doesn't make much sense! Unless the club see him as a medium to long term replacement for Ampadu!
Clip it up now, if Ampadu has another season like the last, he’ll be sold next summer for big money and we would have Shea in as the CDM.

It’s the only thing that makes logical sense.

Interesting post Davey, yep, signing SC makes sense if Amps were to move on next seez.

Amps and SC in same starting line up is a no no for me.

Think he is a squad filler even if he sees different. If we were to lose Gruev, Tanaka, etc need another bum on bench. Proved last few games last season, we are light.

1

22 Jun 2026 14:50:49
Aus, we are light intern of quality replacements all over the pitch, buddy.
We defo had Lady Luck on our side with injuries, or it could have been a nightmare.

2

22 Jun 2026 15:13:29
Definitely Dave, we were lucky with injuries last summer.

I hope we don't sign SC; he isn't a priority need. I wouldn't want AO to leave.

Whereas it's an absolute must we reinforce the team squad with 1, preferably 2, new quality goalscoring CFs, plus a frequent goalscoring creative attacking midfielder.

And better defensive fullbacks than Gabi and Bogle if Farke unwisely reverts to a back 4.

Great to read some interesting posts from all the above. I thank thee.
Keep them coming.

When you look at the best teams, they all have at least two players for every position such that they can make tactical substitutions without weakening the team, so whatever formation Farke chooses, we will be able to do likewise. Our midfield could be any 3 or 4 from Ampadu, Stach, Tanaka, Gruev, Longstaff, Charles, etc., with capable substitutes in all positions.

Just when we thought VAR had got better at WC26, they took about 3 mins to rule on one of the most obvious offsides at the end of the Spain v Saudi Arabia game.

Like the time wasting rules. Is it technology or does ref have to count? Would be great if a buzzer went off telling ref the goalie has had the ball too long, or free kick or throw in.

Not sure if that’s technically possible but if it is, should be used in prem. Would rule out bias. Might being stupid here. I just don’t know how it works.

1

21 Jun 2026 12:52:05
It matters less how it works than if the players think it does. Once the possibility gets into their heads, they'll react accordingly and change their behaviour.

The Ref warns the player, raises his arm, and starts counting on his fingers.

If itk is correct and we are looking good on Brandt and Wilson and the Southampton geezer comes in. I reckon that’s a good start. Wilson a starter, and the other two worthy cover. Gives us more depth. Leaves us enough coin to buy big on striker and get decent gk in if Darlow goes to the dark side.

As I said on discussion page. Think we need to unload as much deadwood as possible and Struik, James, Gnonto and Arrenson. Keep large.
It has once again been rumoured that Sir Garner wants 442 next season.

Think Brandt would start in the middle, and Wilson Rhs. Dunno much about the Southampton kid tbh, but if we are in fir him, then on recent track record, he's worth having.
Will wait and see who leaves, but there's a lot of possible outgoings for sure!

Brandt and Wilson will do for me!

Great to have a lady football pundit who came across well and knew what she was talking about. Ellen White by the way. She done this evening's Sweden Holland game.

3

20 Jun 2026 21:44:11
Yeah, she talks sense when I've listened to her.

Did Ellen pick up today on Sweden's defensive failings, including, regrettably at times, our own Gabi not tracking back effectively, not really stopping crosses effectively, that led to some of the goals for Holland?

Said it before, but Gabi imo is somewhat of a weak link defensively at LB / LWB for Leeds United, and today for Sweden.

He's no Cooper or Dorigo, that's for sure.

20 Jun 2026 23:11:03
I like Gabby, but he did have a bad game tonight. He did have Dutch players doubling up on him a lot of the time, which was tough for any full back to handle, but could have done better.

21 Jun 2026 00:14:42
Also relating to that game, why did we spend ages on what everyone could see was going to be a fruitless pursuit of Strand Larsen in last summer's transfer window, when we could have landed Brobbey for half the price before Sunderland snuck in and signed him at almost the last minute?

1

21 Jun 2026 13:45:03
If full backs stopped crosses into the box, then there would be no crosses into the box. It's silly when people say a FB should stop the crosses.

1

21 Jun 2026 14:02:59
Come off it, Corkey. Blocking crosses is, and should be, a big part of defending.

Mastering blocking crosses is all about aggressive positioning, closing down the winger, reading the game and sharp footwork.

You're more than old enough to have watched Tony Dorigo; he was the blooming master of blocking crosses!

2

21 Jun 2026 20:35:36
Baz, I watched the game and Gabi was left alone and isolated a few times.
You do seem to have a vendetta against our left back.

1

21 Jun 2026 21:56:40
Corkey, I shudder at the thought of Farkey reverting back to a back 4 as it is.

Even more so if Gabi is our LB. He is little better than Firpo defensively.

Leeds seriously need first team player upgrades.

20 Jun 2026 18:18:28
Let me display my ignorance by asking, what's the point of a defender taking a goal kick by passing to the goalie who hoofs it upfield?

3

20 Jun 2026 18:54:33
All I can think is, with defender being there, the other team stay forward to press, creating more space for where the keeper passes to.
