Seen a few bits this morning saying we are walking away from the Shea Charles deal and looking at other options.
I mean it’s only taken a month!
We can’t be held to ransom for any player, there’s clearly better value around Europe and beyond.
18 Jul 2026 15:29:10
Good news.
18 Jul 2026 16:15:45
Pavel Sulc at Lyon is supposedly being seriously considered as an alternative. He had a good season last year. He only joined 12 months ago for a relatively small fee, but the club have financial problems and need to sell some of their better assets.
18 Jul 2026 17:19:03
It's them trying to get top money, but they should have said that weeks ago. Move on. Some really good business going on. Just hope we can get a very, very good keeper. Hope the other two warm the benches. 😄😄
18 Jul 2026 17:53:37
Dunelm, can't see him being an alternative, totally different player. Charles is a 6/8
Sulc is an out & out 10.
I'd say Sulc is the CAM option other than Brandt.
18 Jul 2026 20:11:32
Agreed that they aren't similar. Maybe we are exploring keeping what we've got in midfield, and looking at Sulc as a better alternative to Brandt.
However, if Southampton soften their stance on Charles, I'd make the move and finance it by selling AO.
We'll struggle to get a good return on Gruev or Longstaff, but AO came for very little and would command a reasonable amount if sold. We need someone like Charles in midfield who can add a bit more "let's get forward" rather than pass across or backwards.
18 Jul 2026 20:41:13
SC is a conservative passer of the ball. defo not a progressive passer. We don't need him at the moment, certainly not a priority, and the Leeds recruitment team have seemingly spent, forlornly, a lot of time on this SC pursuit.
Whereas, Leeds most certainly do have imo at least 5 other positions in first team starting eleven and squad that require urgent priority recruitment achievement!
18 Jul 2026 20:54:59
Baz is correct in his second paragraph, but SC is definitely coming to Leeds with Longstaff on his way out.
18 Jul 2026 21:44:09
Who's to say the club didn't move on, just click bait rubbish all the time concerning transfers.
Don't always believe what you read.
19 Jul 2026 07:26:57
Agreed OP, we may have gone no further with Sc than the opening offer, and sit back & wait for Southampton. We will never know.
18 Jul 2026 10:02:43
Still think we need
2 Keepers don't think we will spend big on Trafford.
Left back.
1 or 2 X C halfs.
Mid fielder possibly Brandt. Don't think we will spend big on Charles?
Another winger.
And an upgrade on Piroe.
The money should be spent on the Keeper, winger and striker.
With the other positions being more squad players.
18 Jul 2026 10:51:29
Think we need striker and keeper, big money.
Anymore can be fillers.
18 Jul 2026 13:37:04
I'm not so sure we will sign another CB, we have Seb & there's Wober returning. (Wober should never play, but as a back up to the back up) .
Left back cover is needed.
Charles alternative.
Winger.
10.
9.
2 x goalkeepers.
Still needed imo.
18 Jul 2026 13:48:55
4 or 5 further key position signings a must for me.
1) With the very regrettable departure of Darlow..
Underwood and Co simply must get the goalkeeper recruitment spot on this time.
2) A quality striker is also a must.. No excuses for not doing so after failing to do so in January.
3) A left-footed LB cover essential.
4) And a goalscoring attacking midfielder.
18 Jul 2026 17:20:42
Not sure about him, some on here don't rate him. Let's hope it's sorted quickly.
18 Jul 2026 03:36:13
Good first words from Gary. Looks like he is raring to go and looking forward to meeting the guys. Impressive. Also thought Harry was putting effort in on the training vid. 2 good signings so far that will def improve the team next season.
18 Jul 2026 17:22:38
He looks very promising, Aus mate. Definitely a good upgrade.
18 Jul 2026 21:19:30
Go on Gary, lad.
18 Jul 2026 22:54:15
Gary! Absolutely brilliant. Come on, Gazza, lad!
17 Jul 2026 23:04:01
Why do we mostly seem to struggle with goalies? Perri was quite well ranked before he joined us, so is it the actual players or are our goalkeeping coaching staff persons. I don't know, but I just wonder how a goalie as good as Perri was rated and a good number of posters on here (not all I must add) were pleased when he came, yet suddenly he is rubbish.
I know he has made some errors but he has made some good stops as well, so do we get rid and spend a shed load of Dosh on a replacement or stick with him? Sometimes it's better the devil we know, but also a new broom sweeps clean.
My concern is all we have barr Perri is Cairns and sorry but he is a number 3 at best, personally I would keep Perri but I expect to be in the minority on that.
18 Jul 2026 00:42:57
I'm a bit baffled with Perri. He had a good reputation, but clearly needs work. Whether we give him another chance or not, we still have to buy a good enough keeper to be a starter.
18 Jul 2026 01:08:03
I'd keep Perri, but we need another at least as good as Darlow to compete with him for the No 1 spot. However, good Trafford is, I'd not expend £30M plus of our limited budget on him. If we could get him for £25M (some hope) , I might be tempted, but I'd reject any suggestion of a buyback clause.
18 Jul 2026 08:27:05
Agree with the comments re Perri. I've never viewed him as a lost cause and hoped that he needed some time to get used to the different requirements in the Premier League.
He was ok in the cup run, so hopefully the coaching staff had put some work in.
If he does go, then it has to be a transfer or a loan with an obligation to buy.
18 Jul 2026 09:51:38
Perri's big problem is his distribution. It's terrible. It was s**** at Lyon and hasn't improved at Leeds. I was amazed DF signed off on his transfer.
18 Jul 2026 17:24:16
Good as Darlow. 🤦♂️ No, no, it's got to be better.
17 Jul 2026 16:39:53
Brandt's father, his agent, is allegedly at Thorpe Arch according to Sky News.
17 Jul 2026 20:41:05
A quality, experienced head in the middle of the park could be a great move for us. Let's see if there is anything in it.
17 Jul 2026 14:57:29
If anyone is interested in how our recruitment works then this article from January explains it well. The article explains how we work.
17 Jul 2026 16:29:59
I don't believe it, Alf, I refuse to believe we have a plan. I prefer my own narrative. Underwood out.
17 Jul 2026 16:58:36
Hmmm.
So.. the Leeds Live journo states in his piece above that:
'While Farke does not have total authority over sourcing targets, he does have autonomy over who comes in..'
..so..
A bit disappointing, and strange, therefore, that Farke gave the green light to sign £16 million woeful goalkeeper Perri, especially as Farke clearly doesn't trust nor rate Perri!
17 Jul 2026 20:00:16
Looking at the last 3 seasons, I don't think we can have many complaints really. From a decimated, relegated squad to a play off final, a Championship trophy and comfortably surviving year 1 back in the prem, with many good additions. Astute signings, juggling what we have within PSR.
We look to be building on those solid foundations. It's a complicated jigsaw, and it has to be the right players in all aspects. Sounds meh, but all we can do is trust in the club and wait for things to unfold, but there are many reasons to be cheerful part IV. Well, that's what I think anyway. 😁
17 Jul 2026 22:28:52
100% Vid!
17 Jul 2026 11:44:23
Don't know anything for sure but there are strong opinions that Leeds will try to sign a couple more before leaving for the US - so potentially some of the names we have already herd being banded about. Desire and something actually happening can obvs be worlds apart but how exciting would that be?
16 Jul 2026 22:09:59
What’s people’s thoughts on outgoings this window?
Gnonto? Is it time to cash in him or do we see a future for him at Leeds? Not sure myself.
I wouldn’t be too disappointed if we sold.
Dan James
Gruev especially if we did sign Shea Charles
Wober
Piroe
Harrison
Mateo Joseph
I could see a champ club paying decent money for Piroe, he definitely can do it at that level.
16 Jul 2026 22:40:15
Agree with most of that except:
1. For Harrison & Wober, it's not so much a case of not being disappointed if we sold, as wanting to see us get rid almost at any price.
2. Mateo Joseph is still at an early stage in recovery from an ACL injury, and likely to be out of action for many months, so whether or not we want to sell, it's probably not going to happen til at least Jan 2027, or maybe even this time next year.
17 Jul 2026 07:52:19
I think the way the club sees it is, all of the above plus Ramazani.
A lot of it fringes on how Farke will set up next season.
If he's gunna switch between 4-2-3-1 & 3-4-2-1 then we need wingers as well as CAM's.
I'd probably add Tanaka into that list if there was a decent offer for him.
Farke, obvs, doesn't see him as a regular starter, despite him being much better when he starts games. Ao struggles when he comes on as a sub. He struggles to get to the pace of a game.
Also add in Joffy.
17 Jul 2026 11:46:03
Completely agree with your outgoings there, Mighty. All of those are either not in our plans or simply not good enough, and it would free up a lot of squad space and finances.
17 Jul 2026 11:46:37
I'd also be happy to see Gnonto leave. For whatever reason, he doesn't really get much time.
17 Jul 2026 14:25:31
Agree, Alf. Willy needs to be starting regularly, to both fulfill his potential and get ticking properly. If hes not gonna get that, then sadly, I'd let him go. Ao, very similar tbh.
16 Jul 2026 19:29:28
Pleased with the Harry Wilson signing and on paper, Tarik looks to be a good addition.
We're being linked with a number of players and apart from Elvedi they mostly seem to be a minimum of £25m plus. That's great, if we have the money.
If we got rid of all the loanees it might buy us one player. If we sell one of the current squad, it still means we have to replace them with probably a more expensive newcomer.
We still need 1 or 2 keepers, 1 or 2 FB, maybe a CB if Bournauw goes, an AM and a striker.
I'm not sure how we finance those requirements out of our supposed budget of £85m if we've already spent £35m on Tarik.
I can only surmise that we're looking at the loan market to bulk out the squad, but hopefully improve it at the same time. Hopefully we'll be a bit more selective and avoid another Buananotte.
16 Jul 2026 20:19:10
In theory, we spent 15-17 mill on Tarik as we sold Struick.
16 Jul 2026 22:03:15
Yeah, I was looking at that earlier, and with Strujk going, and also money for Schmidt, and sell on money from Creswell, if that's still happening, Tarik hasn't cost that much. For me, I'm disappointed we didn't manage to keep Darlow, cos we now need to spend a chunk of budget on a keeper.
16 Jul 2026 22:41:15
Doesn't Pascal's fee register in last season's accounts, hence the urgency to make the sale?
17 Jul 2026 10:03:07
You're a smart cookie, Dun.
17 Jul 2026 11:48:28
Yes, we needed to sell in last year's accounts to balance the books from a PSR perspective, but that won't impact how much we can spend this year. We have money available where needed, it's just we need to comply with the spending rules (SCR this season) . These are two different things.
17 Jul 2026 13:58:45
You're right, Alf. The previous PSR regime was on a rolling 3 year basis and Pascal's sale was to meet that criteria. If PSR was continuing, we wouldn't be able to carry it over, but SCR is starting 26/27, so we only have to meet the 85% rule every season to be free of sanctions.
17 Jul 2026 14:13:25
However, the money from Pascal's sale will not be included as income in this year's SCR calculations as it was in last year's accounts.
17 Jul 2026 17:51:54
From an accounting point of view, yes, Dun, but the money still belongs to Leeds United, and they are free to use it as they choose. Rather like your March pay packet fell into last year's tax calculations, but you spent it in April.
17 Jul 2026 18:42:34
The point is that we have to hit the 85% rule. The Club can spend as much as it wants, but if we use money from previous accounting periods to buy players and pay wages this season, then we have to compensate this season by increasing our revenue through commercial activities, reducing our wage bill, or increasing our revenue from the sale of players.
The income in this accounting period determines what we can spend.
This new system has been set up to stop some clubs selling off assets at inflated prices to linked companies, to improve their balance sheets and to prevent them from living beyond their means.
