Just read that Steve Hodge got over 7 million for Maradona’s shirt from the “hand of god” World Cup game.
Fair play.

If I'd had £7M to spare (some hope) I'd have been tempted to buy it and publicly set fire to it in the centre of Buenos Aires.
06 Jul 2026 23:11:13
Was nice knowing you, JR.
07 Jul 2026 13:19:09
Yes, the most expensive football shirt ever by all accounts.
06 Jul 2026 08:51:26
Think Brandt is too old for prem now. Don't think we should sign him. He has left it too late to give prem a go. Maybe 28. Not 30.

06 Jul 2026 10:44:50
Pablo was 32, I think, when he came to Leeds.
So 30 doesn't concern me one bit.
06 Jul 2026 12:17:14
I'd be wary of signing players who rely on pace at that age. Dan James's contract extension, for example, was awful, and takes him comfortably past 30. But players with a more technical basis in dribbling, passing, vision, flair can last longer, and, indeed, as Canada highlights, Pablo is the perfect example of influence post 30.
06 Jul 2026 13:36:42
I know, Canada, about Pablo. Like many other players. Vision and experience. Brandt is 30, a winger, and has only ever played lower-league football. Big miss for me.
06 Jul 2026 16:35:33
Only played lower league? 218 appearances for Dortmund and 48 caps for Germany. How is that "only played lower league"?!
06 Jul 2026 17:07:22
Think you may have been googling wrong, dude Aus. 🙈🤣🤣🤣
06 Jul 2026 17:18:29
His primary position is an attacking midfielder rather than a winger (he can play there as well) .
06 Jul 2026 17:29:42
Aussies know their rugger.. Football maybe not so much..
Sir Mark Viduka excepted.
06 Jul 2026 19:28:37
And Kewell, Dorigo, Kisnorbo, Kilkenny, etc, Baz.
06 Jul 2026 20:03:36
Okon?
06 Jul 2026 20:44:00
Indeed JR,
Didn't we have an Aussie goalie too called Danny Milosevic .. or am I dreaming?
06 Jul 2026 23:01:58
Looking through the history books, Milosevic was here at the same time as Nigel Martyn and Paul Robinson, which explains why he never got a senior game.
06 Jul 2026 23:19:15
Kisnorbo was a fine player.
07 Jul 2026 06:32:17
Wasn't Paddy K a Kiwi?
07 Jul 2026 07:46:30
I've got a Milosevic shirt. His brother owned a restaurant on Rockingham Foreshore, and I got free Tucker cause I supported Leeds.
07 Jul 2026 08:29:53
Kisnorbo was born in Melbourne, Bright.
07 Jul 2026 15:26:54
Cheers, Feath! I stand corrected! Dunno why I thought otherwise!?
06 Jul 2026 08:45:53
So Henderson has badly injured his wrist celebrating, a recent post talked about this so it seems it was bound to happen, maybe just maybe players and more importantly subs will think twice before jumping all over each other and climbing on advertising hoardings, which aren't designed for standing on, but no it will carry on regardless and someone will get a career threatening injury. 🤕🤕

06 Jul 2026 12:18:32
Isn't the bigger issue that he injured his wrist, but had to have a stretcher to leave the pitch? No wonder they act like they've been shot when someone touches them!
06 Jul 2026 13:37:27
Good point, CJS. Private health cover, I reckon. 👍
06 Jul 2026 17:54:04
You want to watch the Joe Westerman video when he puts his knee cap back into place, tells the physio to go and carries on playing. Suppose he didn't have private health cover.
06 Jul 2026 19:36:58
Don't be too quick to judge. Traumatic injuries like that can cause shock and oxygen deficit, which is bad news where the air is 10% thinner - that's probably why they put him on oxygen.
06 Jul 2026 04:05:15
Now that's a game of football.

Must have been enthralling and entertaining for the neutrals after the first 30 minutes.
A very intense, tough, heroic match. Defo one of England's more impressive WC victories.
Hats off to Jude Bellingham.
And also Jordan Pickford and the continuous, fast, direct running of Anthony Gordon, who really impressed me in this match.
06 Jul 2026 10:35:08
Couldn't fault Bellingham last night and as you say, Gordon put a great shift in. Norway next, they will be no pushovers, but a performance like last night should see us through.
06 Jul 2026 19:42:01
Also a mention for Pickford, he may be an arrogant b****** on the pitch, but was near faultless last night.
05 Jul 2026 20:15:31
You just have to laugh how blatant the corruption is now at FIFA, how long before teams decide to walk away I wonder.

05 Jul 2026 20:47:01
The real laugh is that if Trump's executive order hadn't been overruled by the Supreme Court, Balogun's US citizenship would have been revoked and he'd not have been eligible to play for the USA.
05 Jul 2026 20:48:09
Unbelievable. We know who will win the next US game for sure. So, so corrupt.
05 Jul 2026 21:02:43
If the USA lose, they can always play their Trump card.
06 Jul 2026 05:25:23
It's corrupt. No two ways about it. Surely that can't happen. What about all the other players on Reds?
06 Jul 2026 09:18:16
Ridiculous, but originally never intentional, and wouldn't have been surprised if it had been overturned anyway, as not a red on the field of play in ref's mind.
Trump may be the world's biggest idiot, but, similar to our transfer business, do we know for a fact that Trump intervened?
Hate politics in football, hate hypocrisy just as much.
It's really a complaint for the integrity of world football (which ended years ago) , or political point scoring. Either way, from a purely football viewpoint, I'm personally pleased young Belagoun gets to play again.
06 Jul 2026 09:36:47
Trump apparently asked FIFA to review it. It's a disgrace. Plenty of red cards given when possibly not deserved.
06 Jul 2026 10:36:35
If Belgium win, one of them will get the blame for slashing the reflection pool!
06 Jul 2026 19:49:23
Whether or not Balogun's foul was intentional is irrelevant, Quansah's offence last night wasn't intentional either, but a rule is a rule, and should be the same for all. If Balogun plays tonight, England should demand the same treatment so that Quansah can play against Norway if required.
06 Jul 2026 20:05:21
King Charles is on the phone to Infantino as I type!
06 Jul 2026 23:10:08
How does Lord Infantino of Zurich sound if Quansah's red card is overturned?
05 Jul 2026 11:26:52
£17mill for Jayden Anthony shows the state of the market we're having to deal with! 😲
Agree2

05 Jul 2026 11:48:52
Plus £3m in add ons. 😮
05 Jul 2026 12:47:15
To be fair, Brighty, he done well last season.
I do, however, see your point.
Southampton want 30 for Charles, a player who, in my opinion, has had one good half a season, the second half of last season. And that was in the Championship.
05 Jul 2026 13:11:47
Yep, agree he did well, Corkey, and I like him as a player, but if that's his market price, then the market is even more maaaaad than I thought!
05 Jul 2026 13:38:09
Yep JA score 8 goals snd some asslsts in in an R fodder Burnley last season, that's quite impressive.
Leeds spent £15 million on SL last seez, we paid slightly too much imo.
Whereas, imo, £17 million on JA looks a fairly reasonable transfer fee.
05 Jul 2026 13:38:49
I hope we steer clear of Charles now. Not worth anything like £30m.
05 Jul 2026 13:42:36
I think that's a good buy for Anthony.
05 Jul 2026 17:19:50
If 17 million is now considered good value for Jayden, I am officially handing in my resignation as a fan.
05 Jul 2026 17:46:54
In today's market, 17 mill is a good price, but if you were him, would you come to us, as we didn't give him many minutes.
05 Jul 2026 18:03:39
Exactly, Whitey. With players going for well over £120 million,
Brentford, who, like Brighton and Bournemouth, are pretty shrewd in the transfer market,
are getting good value at a mere £17 million for JA, a player who delivered in the EPL last season, scoring 8 EPL goals for blooming Burnley,
four of which were against 2nd place Citeh, 3rd place Man U and 4th place Villa.
JA deserves zero scorn from anyone.
05 Jul 2026 18:09:23
Talking of signing players for good value.
Jaidon Anthony looks an absolute bargain when compared to the Leeds United notorious signing of Jean-Kevin Augustin.
He cost nearly £40 million in total, playing a mere 43 minutes (nearly £1 million per minute) . 😱
05 Jul 2026 20:06:01
Jebus H., you gonna start talking red flags and Leif Davis again as well, Baz?
17m is not good value, imo. Like I said, he did quite well last season, but let's not go googling more stats to make out like he ripped up the division!
And, like I said, I liked him, so no one here has served any "scorn"!
05 Jul 2026 20:52:18
Ooh Baz, JKA!
Just sent a cold shiver down my spine!!
05 Jul 2026 21:10:45
Red flags, Brighty? Forgot all about them. Well remembered. 😆
Yep, Cleggy, pal, cold shiver indeed.. shocking.
06 Jul 2026 08:36:01
Spoke to a contact at Burnley who's seen every home match and a few away matches that Anthony played in the Championship and the PL in the last two seasons.
He said he scored about 8 goals in each season, but he couldn't put in consistently good performances week in, week out.
You never knew what you were going to get.
He thinks Burnley did well to get £17m plus three in add-ons.
06 Jul 2026 09:27:56
Let's see how well Burnley get on without JA this seez.. (8 goals and 8 assists in Champo 24/25 also) .
..
06 Jul 2026 11:23:26
Or let's not, coz we are PL, and they are champo, so not interested in the slightest.
05 Jul 2026 10:53:42
Can I propose a “hydration” break after every goal. The reason for this is to help replenish the entire team (including it appears all the subs) who uncontrollably rush to the corner flag screaming in anger or joy (still trying to work out which) for a love in with their mates.
Reminds me of many a party in the 1960s but that another story I won’t dwell on. It’s all getting a bit ridiculous don’t you think, seems everyone has to kiss and hug everyone else and scream sweet nothings before the actual scorer preens and showboats in front of the now crazed fans.

05 Jul 2026 13:46:00
Lol. My favourite showboating was the scorer of the 2nd goal, a worldie for Cape Verde vs the Argies, who upon scoring
- raced away, Usian Blot speed, avoiding all and sundry.
- and then clambered up the stadium and into the crowd like he has just won the Wimbledon tennis finals.
Embrace it 1970. It's Hollywood babyyy!
05 Jul 2026 13:44:52
Wow. You were in the kitchen at parties in the 60s 1970. Impressive.
Agree about goal celebrations. Guarantee yanks insisted on it. Boring.
05 Jul 2026 16:10:04
Not the kitchen, Ausman, but in retrospect that would have been a wiser choice!
05 Jul 2026 03:23:08
I've said before that some referees from minor footballing nations are not up to the standard required to officiate at the World Cup. The Uzbek referee for the Paraguay v France game was a total disgrace, and clearly not competent to handle a match of that stature. How on earth Paraguay ended up with not a single yellow (or red) card is beyond belief.
This man should not handle another match at this tournament, and how he got on the FIFA elite list in the first place is beyond me. I almost suspect he may even have taken a backhander to try to fix the result.

Question. Are we the only club to have had two x managers at this World Cup?

3 ex managers Prime.
Marcelo with Uruguay.
Brenty with Canada.
TC with Panama.
And yep.
04 Jul 2026 21:54:54
Three, actually: Marcello Bielsa (Uruguay) , Jesse Marsch (Canada) and Thomas Christensen (Panama) .
04 Jul 2026 22:11:12
Beat me to it, Baz. 😀
